Fixin' to git. Waiting for the main event Green Flag It was the first time that we were completely ready before a race! Car, trailer, truck, crew, and I were as ready as we could be by Thursday, 2 days before the race. "That's crazy for a bunch of hillbillies from the mountains!
Practice went well on Saturday and qualifying was a success. We placed 8th with a 17.18 second lap time which was the best qualifying run I have made so far.
The field of 43 cars was the largest late model race in history in western Canada! The field was very tight and to qualify well was an essential ingredient in being successful in the main event.

Photo: Lorraine Hjalte, Calgary Herald / Greg Vangoll (77) passes Dan Foraie in the qualifying round at the Mac's/FedEx Kinko's Border Challenge 150 at Race City Saturday What an event! The newspaper headlines say it all. "Largest field in history lines grid; Western Canadian oval-track race records obliterated" Driven on Dreams was there and it was something to be part it. It is rare that your efforts can be recorded as part of an historical event. I am proud of the team and of our efforts that day. Our car was pictured in the Calgary Herald after the historical event. Here is my Race Day Report for the Summer Sizzler in Vernon, BC. Lots of FAST company in Vernon The team made the trip to Vernon for the Friday night practice. Julie, Chris, Sandy and Troy worked real hard to get the Driven on Dreams Pontiac Grand Prix in tiptop shape. Good job guys!
Troy drove to Vernon just for the Friday night practice and then drove to Calgary Saturday morning to crew chief for a Baby Grand race team. "Thanks a million Troy!"
The car came out of the box very fast and with a few suspension adjustments, we were on rails.
Saturday qualifying didn't go great as I pushed it too deep into turn 3 and then had to break too hard to catch a groove. The car slid up loosely and cost us about 4 tenths of a second. We still managed to qualify 12th out of 34 which started us on the 6th row on the outside. |

The gang, new uniforms and shiny new car. Here's a report on our first day at the races this season. It was written by my friend Christine Bay. You can also see the article on the www.JustTurnLeft.ca web site. Sleepless in Saskatoon! “Our day started at 7 am Friday morning in Golden and ended at 1 am Saturday night in Saskatoon. The crew members were troopers! We spent a grueling 42 hours awake, traveled over 900 km’s, and hustled to finish the car and then race it. We knew full well the car was untested and we were really just hoping everything would go well” said a pleased Dan Foraie, driver of the #97 Driven on Dreams Chevrolet Monte Carlo. |
